For Those Who Plan on Going

 It is always nice to have an idea about what we will see and where we will be.  My next post will be about ways to prepare for the trip.  Here is a synopsis of our travel plans.  

All pilgrims will need to be in Tel Aviv by Monday, February 27th.  The bus will pull out from the hotel by 8:15 the next morning to head north.  We will visit Jaffa, Caesarea, Mt. Carmel, Megiddo, Nazareth and end our day by the Sea of Galilee.

We will spend three nights in the area of the Sea of Galilee, visiting the places where Jesus did a majority of  His three years of ministry (Capernaum, Korazim, Magdala, Kursi, Tabgha).  We will also visit sites on the Golan Heights, along the Lebanese, Syrian and Jordanian borders, and do baptisms in the Jordan River.  A boat ride on the Sea of Galilee and some other special treats are included.

We will then travel south along the Jordan River valley to visit Beit Shean, where Saul’s body was hung on the wall after his defeat on Mt. Gilboa.  We will also stop at the location where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist.  We will spend two nights along the Dead Sea.  En Gedi (where David hid from Saul), Masada, Qumran (where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found) and possibly Beersheba are all on our itinerary. You will also have the chance to float in the Dead Sea and have a spa treatment.

Our last five nights will be in and around Jerusalem (including Bethlehem)

Buffet Breakfasts and Dinners are provided at each hotel.  In Tel Aviv you will have the chance to walk the beach along the Mediterranean Sea. Nof Ginosar sits on the Sea of Galilee and the Lot Hotel has a beach on the Dead Sea. The Prima Kings is within a 10 minute walk of the Old City for evening excursions or shopping.  We have a couple special events planned for the evenings in Jerusalem.

Our First Big Day

 This Tuesday represented our first real touring day.  It was also a day where many of our folks are feeling the effects of jet lag.  Everyone did very well today despite feeling a little exhaustion.  It is a blessing traveling with this group. Our day began with an 8:00 am departure, following the path Peter would have taken from Joppa to Caesarea.  We discovered the difference between a theater and an amphitheater as Nir told us of concerts which have been presented at the 2nd Century theater of Caesarea.  We were wowed by the fresh water large pool that was a part of Herod’s sea-side palace.  A stone confirming Pontius Pilate’s existence as governor stood nearby Herod’s palace. We pictured Paul giving his defense before Festus, Felix and Agrippa below the platform at the hippodrome.  A short visit to the harbor area and we were on our way to Mt. The Journey Begins…….

  Welcome to our family and friends who are joining us on our journey.  This weekend we make our way to Tel Aviv in order to begin the trip of a lifetime, walking where Jesus walked.  The sights, the sounds, the unique people that we will meet, will all help the Bible come alive for us as we traverse the Fifth Gospel, the land of Israel. We are grateful you have joined us.  Starting next Monday, February 27th I will be posting pictures and a summary of our day’s activity for you to see.  We will be seven hours ahead of you so it will be available starting around 3:00 or 4:00 in the afternoon your time each day.   I know each person going with us is filled with excitement and anticipation.  Pray for us, that the Lord will open our eyes and hearts to all that He has prepared for us. Preparing for the Journey

In front of the waterfall at En Gedi Where water was stored inside Jerusalem The Scriptorium area at Qumran Walking the Western Wall road Looking over the Jezreel Valley at Nazareth En Gedi - David’s hideout from Saul      We will be walking at least 10,000 steps per day.  I have said it numerous times.  Closer to 20,000 other days.  SO, the first thing to do to prepare for a pilgrimage to Israel is to walk, walk, walk.  Walking the mall several times per week through the winter months would help.  Or walking a treadmill at home or gym.  But make sure you have prepared yourself by walking.  It will make for a more pleasant trip.    Second, we recommend some reading and watching to give you some background.  To understand modern Israel, I recommend reading The Hope and The Glory by Herman Wouk.  They are two historic novels that trace Israel’s history from 1948-1967 and then from 1967 to the late 1980’s.  It gives...
